QA Automation Engineer

Job Description

As a QA Automation Engineer (Mobile & Frontend), the role is responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining automated tests for iOS, Android, and modern web applications. The position focuses on ensuring software quality, functionality, performance, and cross-platform compatibility through automated testing. Key responsibilities include creating mobile and end-to-end (E2E) functional tests, integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines, identifying and documenting defects, troubleshooting visual and performance issues, collaborating with developers to validate fixes, and maintaining test plans, technical documentation, and test coverage reports.

Job Responsibilities

As a QA Automation Engineer (Mobile and Front-end), he/she is expected to perform the following duties;

• Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for iOS and Android applications using modern mobile automation frameworks.
• Design mobile tests that account for device-specific behavior, gestures, operating system differences, screen sizes, and viewport variations.
• Build and maintain end-to-end (E2E), functional, and UI automated test suites for modern web applications.
• Perform cross-browser and cross-platform testing to ensure consistent functionality, usability, and performance.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and ensure efficient execution within staging and pre-production environments.
• Execute tests within containerized environments and assist in maintaining reliable automated testing workflows.
• Identify, reproduce, document, and track software defects with clear technical details and supporting evidence.
• Collaborate with software engineers to isolate root causes, troubleshoot defects, and validate hotfixes and bug resolutions.
• Investigate visual regressions, state management issues, functional defects, and mobile application performance concerns.
• Perform regression testing and continuously improve test coverage as new features and system changes are introduced.
• Test applications using decoupled or headless architectures, including frontend applications connected to API-based backends.
• Conduct or support mobile performance profiling, including CPU, memory, battery consumption, and network latency testing under simulated conditions.
• Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, automation frameworks, technical documentation, and test coverage reports.
• Track and contribute to QA metrics, test coverage ratios, and engineering scorecards to support data-driven quality improvements.
• Continuously evaluate and adopt modern QA automation tools, frameworks, and testing practices.
• Collaborate with developers, product teams, and other stakeholders within an Agile development environment.
• Reports to the TL for Tech Innovation and Operations Head.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience or certifications may be considered.
• 3–5 years of QA experience, with a strong focus on mobile and web automation testing.
• Hands-on experience with Appium, Detox, Maestro, or similar mobile automation tools.
• Proficiency in Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar web automation frameworks.
• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript programming and test scripting skills.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, Docker, and mobile app testing/distribution platforms.
• Experience testing iOS, Android, modern web applications, and API-connected/headless architectures.
• Familiarity with mobile performance testing, including CPU, memory, battery, and network performance.
• Strong understanding of E2E, functional, regression, and UI testing.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within an Agile team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement in QA automation.
• ISTQB CTFL is preferred; CT-TAE or relevant automation certifications/training is an advantage.
• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum development methodologies.

Required Skills

• ISTQB Certified Tester – Foundation Level (CTFL).
• ISTQB Certified Tester – Test Automation Engineering (CT-TAE) is highly preferred.
• ISTQB Agile Tester or ISTQB Performance Testing certification is an advantage.
• Relevant Appium, Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium certification or formal training is an advantage.
• Relevant certification or formal training in Docker, CI/CD, or automated testing frameworks is an advantage.
